PTSD Healing Centers

Last updated: January 26, 2023

Chances are you know someone who needs healing from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD), or a symptom of PTSD (like depression, anxiety, addiction, etc.) Below are some healing centers that I have come across that have services to heal trauma and related struggles, what their services are, how much or little I know about them (in the “Due Diligence” section), and what type of promotion I am giving them (either a free/unsponsored promotion or paid/sponsored promotion). At the bottom of the list, I also explain how to start your search as well as how to find a healing center near you.

Colorado

Rocky Mountain Hyperbaric Institute

  • Location: 25 W South Boulder Road, Suite 101, Louisville, CO 80027
  • Services: “Research… showed that many types of wounds healed more rapidly by providing a pure oxygen breathing atmosphere while the patient is in a pressurized chamber. This technique, called hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), “supercharges” the blood with additional healing oxygen that can reach tissues even if normal blood circulation is compromised. HBOT was declared safe and effective by the FDA in 1971 for many specific medical conditions such as bone infections, carbon monoxide poisoning and severe burns. Compared to other therapies such as surgery or medication, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is completely non-invasive, has no side effects and minimal risks. The procedure is safe, comfortable and effective and patients may relax, listen to music or watch movies while receiving their treatment.”
  • Due Diligence: I am recommending them because I participated in their free, 30-day HBOT program for Veterans in 2015 or 2016. It was a game changer for me at a time when brain fog had reduced my cognitive capacity by 10-15%. After 30 days of treatment for one hour, twice a day, I was back to full cognitive capacity as proved by before-and-after cognitive tests. I also felt much more emotionally balanced. They also offered counseling and EMDR to augment the HBOT therapy, but I did not really benefit from how their therapist offered those services. They offered free, co-ed housing and a grocery stipend, as well. Transportation there and back, as well as locally, was left up to the Veteran.

Boca Recovery Center

  • Location:
    • 21301 Powerline Rd #311, Boca Raton, FL 33433
    • 971 S Dixie Hwy W, Pompano Beach, FL 33060
  • Services: “Boca Recovery Center is a Substance Use Disorder program providing excellence in the medical and clinical treatment of drug and alcohol addiction, as well as co-occurring mental health issues [like PTSD, depression, and anxiety].  Addiction is a family disease and our highly trained staff will work closely with both clients and their loved ones to support the healing process. Substance Use Disorders and related mental health issues can present differently for each person, therefore there is no “one-size-fits-all” method that can ensure a person’s successful recovery. Through an individualized process, our team will work to develop the right treatment plan for each client [including residential treatment, outpatient treatment, and Christian recovery services], providing the instillation of hope in situations that may have appeared hopeless.  Our clinical team is trained at the Master’s or Doctoral level, with each professional bringing unique training and skill to our program. Collectively, our entire staff takes pride in our strong passion for helping clients develop a life of sobriety and a renewed sense of hope for the future.
  • Due Diligence: Boca Recovery Center asked me to review their informational articles about PTSD & Addiction as well as Veterans & Addiction and share them if I found them beneficial. I found the articles to be accurate according to my experience, and I liked the multi-modal approach to recovery that their website presented. Having been a child of an alcoholic, I agree that addiction is a family disease and that recovery looks different for every person. I also value the opportunity to partner recovery with spiritual support; spirituality is not for everyone during their recovery journey, but for those who want it, it can be a powerful tool to aid their recovery. (After all, Jesus miraculously healed the man who developed the 12 steps of recovery, so that he could help the world!) I am sharing them as an unsponsored promotion.

Texas

Lorie M. Ammon, LPC, CGP

  • Location: 7557 Rambler Road, Suite 730, Dallas, TX 75231
  • Services: “I am a psychoanalyst, and I aim to come alongside you to understand your life experiences. In therapy, we look to make meaning of your symptoms and behaviors as having a deeper meaning that needs to be discovered and resolved in some fashion. What has been unheard or unsaid can linger in your mind and your unconscious causing distress or confusing repetitions. Working together, we can discover how being understood changes who you think you are. and how you feel. We will focus on emotions because what you feel helps us to know what is bothering you. Psychoanalysis provides emotional understanding and insight that change your experience of yourself, thoughts, and feelings about who you are in the present and that changes you.”
  • Due Diligence: I benefitted from Lorie’s services for over two years. She was the most effective counselor with whom I have ever worked, because she could partner with the Holy Spirit to discover what my heart really needed, even when I didn’t know what it needed. She was also willing to work with a team of providers, including a psychiatrist, and an EMDR therapist simultaneously, which is a sign of a good therapist. (I’ve briefly met with other therapists who would not “share” me as a client because they had to “control” every aspect of my therapy; this is a huge red flag!)

How to Find a Healing Center Near You

Insurance

  • Call the insurance plan of the affected person and ask if they cover psychiatry, psychotherapy, EMDR, addiction rehabilitation, or group therapy
  • Sadly, they will probably not be as helpful or as compassionate as you want them to be, especially if you find yourself in a crisis. Take a breath, and don’t despair. If they don’t cover the services you believe you need, there are still a lot of non-insurance options available to you.
