I’m originally from Turkey. That means I grew up sloughing off the dead skin from my body every month, like clockwork. I don’t know how people live without doing this mass-exfoliation. My skin feels itchy if I go too long without it.
If I lived in Turkey, I would visit the hamam (Turkish public bath) once a quarter, too. But, alas, I’m stuck with American infrastructure. What that meant for many years was that I would steam up my bathroom until the walls were sweating as I washed my body with non-moisturizing soap and then waited for the steam to get underneath the dead skin enough to then scrub, scrub, scrub my body with a kese (Turkish exfoliating mitt) until little gray rolls of dead skin started falling off my body. Phew! It takes a LOT of work—at least an hour—to get it right.
But recently, I came upon the most easy and effective hack to exfoliating my body—by accident! If I knew how to market this to Turkish customers, I’d probably become a millionaire…it’s THAT good!
Soak in a warm Epsom salt and baking soda bath for 10 minutes before exfoliating. That’s it! That combination prepares your skin better than a hamam!

I recently had to throw away my kese because it was falling apart at the seams. Fortunately, this Dermazonn mitt from Amazon does the job beautifully! (No, I’m not an affiliate.)
My husband was immediately able to tell when I took a Turkish bath. He commented on how soft and smooth my skin was.
Try it. You’ll like it!
