Day 6 of our #40daysoffaith adventure moving from MD to CO on the word of God ended in a failed date night. When I showed up to my friend’s house to pick up my kid early, she noticed how bummed I was and gave me a hug. “You’re both stressed and your emotions are running high, right now. These tough times are when we get to work on our marriage, to make it better.” She made me smile. She’s right—the world isn’t over if my husband and I didn’t enjoy our evening together, and we can still do something about it.
By the time we got home, we were both ready to talk about what went wrong and how we could make up for it. After a warm bath, two cups of tea, and sharing a cupcake while sitting on the stairs (we have no chairs), all felt better in our world.
We have learned to be honest with our disappointments and share them as soon as we recognize them—so, we did. We also shared how we wished our date had gone. We decided again that we would persevere for the beautiful marriage God promised us, no matter what it takes.
Meanwhile, the U-haul in the driveway is packed, the R-Pod is parked on the curb, and we drive away tomorrow. Eeek!
The Prayer
God, you promised we would have a beautiful marriage, full of joy and life. You promised we would be unified in body, soul, and spirit if we followed you together. We will not let go of that promise; help us fulfill it. So be it—amen.
The Challenge
What is your #40daysoffaith adventure and how did Day 6 go? When have your emotions run high on this journey? How did you work through them?
