Did you know that fear can actually make you more stupid?
While love can make you smarter?
That’s right! Your motive actually affects your level of intelligence.
Here’s how it works:
God has given different parts of the truth to different peoples and cultures around the world, even those who hold different worldviews, religions, and political stances from each other.
This does not mean that truth does not exist, but rather that nobody has a complete grasp of it (even myself.)
Because of this, whether you are motivated by fear or love when you interact with others has a huge impact on your grasp of that truth.
FEAR will have you afraid of the portion of what they believe that is not true and drive you to either attack or run away, which will:
A. Drive both you and them further out of God’s truth
B. Reject the truth that they have received from God
C. Drive you both apart and harm your relationship, so you are even more inhibited from learning from them.
LOVE will have you confident enough to approach the other person, which will:
A. Bring you both closer into God’s truth
B. Learn the truth they have from God
C. Bring you two closer and build a relationship, so you can continue learning from each other.
So, the next time you are arguing with someone, take a minute to ask yourself what exactly is motivating you at that moment.
How you answer that may mean the decision to become smarter, or more stupid. Your choice.
