There are many types of mothers out there, and I’m sure many of them have their place, but I honestly did not know what kind of mother I’d be because I decided to start from scratch.
Many new mothers follow their own mother’s style of parenting, and this is completely normal; but I had asked God to mother me instead, to reparent me so that I could be the best kind of mother for my kid.
That meant I was in completely new territory. So…I get to discovering who I am as a mother at the same time that I get to discover who my husband is as a father and who my daughter is as a person. Needless to say, there’s a lot of discovery (AKA not knowing how to do things) going on in our new family right now! 🤣
But one of the things I recently discovered was that I am a buy-matching-shirts-and-get-a-photo-shoot kind of mother. Yup! I love ‘em, all the cutesie shirts in the Etsy stores… they were made for me! Fortunately, my loving husband is a good sport. (He did, however, put a limit on the number of personalized shirts I was allowed to buy him after the third one he received in two years… haha!)
I will honor his boundaries… but I have no shame! When my kid grows up, I want her to remember that her mother enjoyed planning celebrations and curating memories in her life.
That’s the kind of mother I want my kid to have.
