40 Days of Faith – Day 39 | Preparing the Field

…we have been preparing our fields so that our work here may be fruitful.

The Status

On Day 39 of our #40daysoffaith adventure moving from MD to CO on the word of God, we finally tasted a rhythm that can enable the life we want to have in this transition season. That’s a big deal!

So I followed my heart in finding spaces outside our home where we could live family life. I discovered a recreational center that had drop-in childcare and an amazing baby pool and lazy river area! I also found an indoor bouncy house with great rates and availability. That gave us the indoor play space we needed.

When the light at the end of the active duty tunnel was approaching, my husband and I talked about the new life rhythm we wanted to have. We discussed being more evenly split in parenting hours, in domestic chores, and in financial responsibility for the household. When we arrived to Colorado in the smallest RV in the entire campground, we realized that we need more space and more help than our RV-life would provide to make it work.

Check out this amazing baby pool with slide, water cannon, and lazy river!

Then, I found a part-time Christian preschool that we could actually afford. That gave us the regular childcare we needed.

My kid was born to go to school. I guess that puts an end to our discussions about homeschooling! 😂

Then, I found a beautiful coworking space with a rooftop patio, a bar and restaurant, a gym with shower, and three kitchenettes. That gave us the office space we needed.

This is our desk, facing a walk-out patio .

Finally—and perhaps, most importantly—we discovered that our Tesla made a great nap area for our kid, who refused to nap any other way. The car has the ability to maintain a specific temperature even when it is off, and be controlled from our mobile app. That, combined with a baby monitor system, gave us the separate child napping space we needed.

Although we have a love-hate relationship with our Tesla, “Dog Mode” certainly fits in the “love” column. ❤️

After establishing the out-of-house family spaces we needed, we were able to devise a schedule that enables our work goals. My husband and I trade off being with our daughter: five hours on, five hours off. The parent on kid-duty keeps the car and drops the parent on work-duty at the office. Five hours later, we trade off the kid and the car for another five hours. We spend evenings and weekends all together (except for one night off that we each get every week).

When we have been able to do it the way we planned, it has worked out beautifully. Now, we just need sniffly noses healed and interrupted sleep fixed so that we can do it regularly.

The Takeaway

I realize that we have spent the past two weeks preparing our fields so that we can do the work God has prepared for us to do.

Psalm 24:27 in parallel

Without establishing these outdoor places for play, learning, and work, we could never make this temporary RV-life work. (After all, we live in a closet.) We want God to give us the land and the house he/she promised—and we know God will—but until then, we will focus on preparing for our work here so that it may be fruitful.

The Prayer

God, thank you for giving us favor and wisdom as we prepare our out-of-house spaces here. Guide us in what else we need to do. We are for you. Amen.

The Challenge

What is your #40daysoffaith adventure and how did Day 39 go? In what way might God want you to adjust your life rhythms?
